Winterwood
History
Winterwood’s
formal journey started 30 yrs. ago in New York with the purchase
of a 3 yr old Thoroughbred Gelding named Solitaire. Solitaire
was bought as a hunter/jumper prospect, but his exuberance and
youth had us decide to spend time with him learning Dressage. We
felt this would give him some manners and focus. Solitaire's
sense of humor made him quite a stand out in the ring and drew
lots of crowds at shows to witness his “personality” and “airs”.
Sol finally buckled down and learned to enjoy the work and
together with Annmarie was INSLICO zone Champion at 2nd
level in 1984. That same year our 12 yr old daughter Chiara was
zone champion on her welsh pony “Cross Creek Coquette”. In those
days there was no Amateur division so this little girl and her
pony rode and won against adults and professionals to gain the
title. Both “Solitaire” and “Coquette” also evented but it
became apparent that Winterwood’s love was in the dressage
arena. Chiara went on to show her new horse “Prelude” a 3yr old
appendix that we started and we had many years of fun and
triumph with her.
Winterwood
relocated to Ocala, Florida in 2005. Solitaire lived 30 yrs and
recently was humanely put down do to the infirmities of old
age. Prelude is still part of the Winterwood family and is 28
years old. Chiara has gone on to raise her own and now we are
the proud grandparents of 5. Where do the years go?
It became
apparent that horses bred for the sport were much more enjoyable
and Winterwood purchased its first warm blood in 1997.
Landesfurst is a Holsteiner that is a pleasure to have around
and has competed successfully through 4th level.
We added two
imported SPS mares to our farm and have committed Winterwood to
develop and produce top quality youngsters for discriminating
dressage riders.
Come and join us
on our journey into the future.
